WordPress uses an API called “Heartbeat” to monitor certain conditions and report to the user if something went wrong. If your login cookie expires while you’re writing a post, for example, Heartbeat will open a modal window and allow you to log in again. Not useful per se in relation to site functionality. But a cute and nice thing to have if you spend lots of time on the back end of WordPress. It’s just a tiny little bit extra that helps make it slightly more pleasant to do your work with WordPress.
